Dermabrasion is a procedure that smoothes and finishes the skin’s top layers through controlled surgical scraping. Dermabrasion eliminates any surface irregularities that could have been caused by skin scarring from trauma, previous surgeries, or just wrinkles from aging. It’s also sometimes used to remove the pre-cancerous growths called keratoses. Both dermabrasion and dermaplaning can be performed on small areas of skin or the entire face. They can be used alone or with other procedures such as facelift, scar removal or revision, or chemical peel. The advantage of dermabrasion at D.C. Surgical Arts is that we do this procedure under IV sedation, unlike most clinics in the D.C. area. IV sedation is extremely safe as this will provide the most comfort for the patient during the dermabrasion procedure.
